Abstract

This interview includes Carole Hesse, her niece Kim Coe, and Carole’s roommate Van Heiselberg (sp?). Van does not answer any question, but does make some comments towards the end. Jim Duran had difficulty controlling the room and it may be difficult to transcribe this interview.

Carole Hesse was born in the early 1940s, her older sister Sharron was good friends with Vicki Linderborn. Sharron’s daughter Kim Coe did extensive research in her mother’s diary and tells some stories she remembers from her mother’s diary and spoken stories. Carole’s father, Kim’s grandfather divorced Carole’s mother and left the family in the 1940s. Carole’s mother worked in offices in Downtown Boise, and raised her children along with an African American house keeper Mrs. Cooper. Carole and Kim remember growing up on the bench with minimal parental oversight, going to restaurants, and staying out late.
