Biographical / Historical

Originally from Pocatello, Brandy Wilson moved to Boise in 1994. She volunteered for the foothills serial levy campaign and served as both a public speaker and note-taker for the executive foothills committee. Throughout the effort to preserve the foothills she kept a scrapbook of all the newspaper articles The Idaho Statesman published. At the time of being interviewed she was serving as an Environmental Manager and Technical Writer at CH2M.

Abstract

In her interview with Stephanie Milne, Brandy Wilson shared her recollections of the serial foothills levy campaign. Brandy described how she became involved in the foothills levy and her role on the executive committee. She also described the initial meeting that took place on the foothills at City Hall. She praised Chuck McDevitt, the overall positivity of the campaign and the volunteers when describing how the campaign was successful. Wilson also recalled the atmosphere of the campaign and the mixed emotions that were evident on election day. Additionally, Wilson described the opposition the campaign faced and how they dealt with it. In concluding the interview Wilson stated she wanted future generations to remember that there will always be problems in the world, but to be sure to take care of your corner of it.

Additionally, she mentioned other people who served on the executive committee and described their individual roles.

She remembered that many were concerned with the tax burden that would come with preservation. She also specifically recalled a speaking engagement held at Eagle Island Fair where people were not receptive due to negative campaign ads that had recently come out.

She remembered that one radio station gave out the name and home phone numbers of some of the foothills supporters. She also talked about how developers were not truly a threat. However, she mentioned the Boise Chamber of Commerce was an opposition the campaign faced. Brandy described how the campaign centered on positive messaging.
