Abstract

In an interview with Jennifer Stevens on September 11, 2018, Alan Shealy discusses his personal history, his appointment to city council by Mayor Terteling-Payne, and the issues he worked on. He describes how his experience working in finance led him to undertake changing how the city created budgets and to help restore transparency and confidence in city government. He discusses his fiscal philosophy and his voting history on issues including moving a ten commandments statue out of Julia Davis Park, management of Community House, funding of a detox center. He also touches on Boise’s park system, foothills management, the relationship between city hall and the police department, and transportation.

Alan also describes the issues he worked on while on the Ada County Air Quality Board and as commissioner for Capital City Development Corporation (CCDC) including historic districts and the creation of Blueprint Boise, a masterplan for development in Boise.
