Abstract
Haley Noble conducted this interview on December 6th, 2017, with Jim Collier in Boise, Idaho as part of the Citizens of Boise oral history project. Jim Collier, who was the owner of Lemp’s Apothecary in downtown Boise from 1968 to 1989, shares his memories of working there as a pharmacist. He discusses the various responsibilities he had after gaining ownership in 1968, such as managing the deliveries of prescriptions to people in the area, record keeping, and the pharmaceutical contracts he had with different nursing homes nearby. Collier explains that unlike other pharmacies in the area, Lemp’s Apothecary was a compounding pharmacy. A compounding pharmacy is responsible for combining, mixing, or altering ingredients to create a medication tailored to the needs of an individual patient. Additionally, he recalls the prejudice female pharmacist faced at the time. According to him, there was little prejudice and female pharmacist were generally accepted.
