Abstract
In an interview with Troy Reeves on June 10, 1998, Morgan Masner discusses his involvement with the Greenbelt Committee. He explains how his employer, Ore-Idaho Foods, encouraged people in management positions to get involved in local affairs; he worked with the Chamber of Commerce and sat on a parks and recreation committee that began looking for ways to clean up the riverbanks in town. After making a presentation to the Chamber of Commerce on the idea, he was approached by Mayor Amyx to chair a Greenbelt Committee. He discusses the hiring of Bill Onweiler as the first Greenbelt Coordinator, negotiating with property owners for land, and the contributions of Jan Evans, Glen Cline, and John Chapman to the various aspects of the Greenbelt Project. He also highlights the support from City leadership like Mayor Amyx, Bill Onweiler, and Gordon Bowen. Morgan describes the creation of the Warm Springs Golf Course, the overwhelming support from the various government bodies, the negotiations with BSU over the setback of new buildings, and how each member of the committee was assigned a specific project to work on and then would report back to the full committee.
