Abstract

In her interview with Terri Schorzman on February 26, 2022, Patricia Wilcomb discusses her personal history and experience as a singer and board member for the Boise Philharmonic and Boise Civic Opera.

Patricia begins her interview discussing how her family came to Boise from Tennessee after the American Civil War, and her father’s career as a builder in the 1920s and 30s with his company, Jordan-Wilcomb Construction, Inc. formerly Jordan & Son, and the notable projects they completed including The Egyptian Theatre, Gowen Field, Boise High School, and North Junior High. She recounts studying music at the University of Oregon where she learned to sing opera before moving to attend the University of Idaho with her future husband. After graduating, Patricia joined the Boise Symphony Orchestra Auxiliary helping with tickets and bookkeeping as part of her community service activities as a member of the Junior League of Boise. She discusses how her activities as a volunteer led to her involvement with Ken Hartzler and taking up singing again after a hiatus following college for Music Week. The remainder of the interview consists of Patricia’s recollections of singing in different productions for Music Week in the 1960s, her involvement with the Boise Philharmonic, and the formation of the Boise Civic Opera and opera workshops.
