Abstract
In her interview with Terri Schorzman on April 15, 2022, Marie Blanchard discusses her personal history and experience as a singer and board member for Boise Civic Opera.
Marie begins the interview with discussing her training to be a nurse where she worked in a tuberculosis sanitorium and recounts being present for the first pneumonectomy. She next worked as a stewardess for Pan America, frequently flying to cities in Alaska prior to getting married; she describes the working conditions on airplanes in the 1950s and the physical requirements stewardesses were held to. Marie discusses the circumstances that brought her family to Boise, the houses they lived in and the growth of their family, and how she came to be interested in theatre and opera. The remainder of the interview consists of Marie’s recollections of working with the Boise Little Theater, Boise Civic Opera, and the La Scala Guild as well as her recent activities organizing a musical gala at her church, All Saints Episcopal Church.
