Biographical / Historical

Katherine “Kathy” H. Troutner-Johnson was born December 8, 1919, in Baltimore, Maryland. She married Charles Cockey, Jr. with whom she had two sons, Charles III and Jim II. After divorcing, Kathy moved to Sun Valley, Idaho where she met and married Arthur Troutner with whom she had two more children, Art, Jr. and Tara Katherine. The family moved to Boise where Kathy used her experience in theatre, dance, and music to direct plays at Boise High School. She was also involved with several organizations including the Boise Design Review Committee, Idaho Nature Conservancy, League of Women Voters Environmental Quality Board, and Ada and Idaho Fish and Game Leagues. Kathy split her time between Boise and McCall where she spent her summers. In 1980 while in McCall she met Earnest Johnson. The couple married and spent time recreating outdoors and traveling until Kathy’s death on August 10, 2009.

Earnest “Earnie” Dale Johnson was born on March 19, 1925, in Colville, Washington. He graduated from high school in Spokane, Washington before joining the U.S. Army Air Corps. After serving in World War II, he attended the University of Idaho where he met and married Ann Winters in June of 1946. The couple had six children: Mike, Kent, Barbara, Sally, Becky, and Heidi. The family lived in McCall where Earnie worked as a teacher and for the Forest Service. After his wife died in 1977, he met and married Kathy. Earnie is the author of two books and several articles. He passed away on September 14, 2014.
