This collection contains a brief biography of Russell E. Edlefsen, a 1953 speech Edlefsen gave at Bishop Kelly’s Episcopal Silver Jubilee, correspondence, photographs, awards, newspaper/magazine clippings, and five copies of Look magazine (January 24, 1967- April 4, 1967). There is also an oversize illustration drawn by John G. Collias in 1951 of Edlefsen and his family in honor of Edlefsen’s 45th birthday.

Biographical / Historical

Russell Elmer Edlefsen (1906-1986) served four consecutive terms as the mayor of Boise, Idaho between 1951-1959. He was born September 30, 1906, in Preston, Idaho. Russell’s father James L. Edlefsen, earlier served as mayor of Boise from 1936 to 1939. Russell Edlefsen worked for the Morrison-Knudsen Construction Company and the Idaho Department of Highways, the latter of which granted him a leave of absence when he was elected to serve his first term as mayor in 1951. In 1959 Edlefsen returned to his post at the Idaho Department of Highways after he completed his final term as mayor. He died in 1986.
