Biographical / Historical
Ansgar Edgar Johnson, Sr. was born on September 10, 1893, to Thora and Jons Johnson in Morris, Minnesota. His family moved to Boise, Idaho, where he began working as a photographer. He married Roxie McMillan on September 28, 1927 in Boise, Idaho. Together they had three sons.
Ansgar Edgar Johnson, Jr. was born on April 6, 1929. He graduated from Boise High School in 1947 and began working at a photo finishing shop then the Idaho Statesman. He married Esther Ritter on December 2, 1949. Together they had four children.
Ansgar Sr. owned and operated a photography studio, and in 1950, when his son joined him, the business became Johnson & Son. The studio was located in the Sonna Building until a fire in 1951 destroyed it. They then moved to 721 Main St., where the U.S. Bank Building now sits.
