Biographical / Historical

Lemp's Apothecary was established in 1939 at 107 E. Bannock Street by Clarence J. Lemp (b. 1897). Later, the apothecary moved to the Koelsch Building at 220 N. 2nd Street. In 1952, James F. Collier (1923-2020) began working as a pharmacist at the Lemp Apothecary, and in 1968, when C.J. Lemp died, he purchased the business. The Koelsch Building was torn down and replaced by the Anderson Plaza Medical Building in 1976; the apothecary became a tenant on the first floor of the newly constructed property at 222 N. 2nd St.

Gary Wilburn (b. 1957) was working as a pharmacist for Collier when, in 1989, he decided to purchase the business. He continued operating as the owner and lead pharmacist, specializing in customized Hormone Replacement Therapy, until August 2014, when he died. After his passing, the business was permanently closed.
