Biographical / Historical
Carl Christian Amalius Mollerup was born on July 4, 1868 in Nyborg, Denmark to Caroline Amalie Sorensen and Carl Frederick Mollerup. Carl played the cornet in the symphony orchestra of Copenhagen before immigrating to the U.S. in 1889. He joined the Kansas City Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Carl Bush, played a season in the orchestra for the Emma Juch Company, and took a position as solo cornet in the Broadway Theater Orchestra of Denver, Colorado. In 1900 he moved to Salt Lake City where he played in the Orpheum Orchestra under Professor Welhe as well as playing cornet for the Utah Theater. He directed his own band, Mollerup’s Military Band, for Salt Lake City’s municipal band concerts in the parks from 1912-1914. In 1915 Carl became the first director of the Boise Municipal Band; he led and played in the band through 1916.
Carl Mollerup died January 1, 1929 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
