Abstract

In an interview with Alicia Martin-Cowger on August 11, 2010, Don Boyer discusses his career with the Boise Fire Department. Topics discussed in the interview include: the jobs he had prior to becoming a firefighter; the support the department gave him while his wife was sick; how the staff responded to different leadership styles; how he got the nickname Cletis; his feelings about the men he worked with being like a family; becoming an ARFF firefighter; and becoming the Fire Department chaplain. He also discusses his memories of working at Central Station, responding to medical calls, and his experience as a union representative dealing with the consequences of the 1% Initiative and negotiating with City Council.
