Abstract
In their interview with Gaby Thomason on July 5, 2018, Charles Parks, Roger Wassler, and Ricardo Salutregui, offered their memories of working as firefighters with the Boise Fire Department. Charles Parks served as a hoseman, driver, and captain from June 1968-December 1993; Roger Wassler served as a hoseman, driver, fire inspector, and captain from 1972-1997; and Ricardo Salutregui served as a hoseman, driver, lieutenant and superintendent from 1959-October 1984. They spoke on the following topics: How they came to join the Fire Department; the early alarm system; changes in the firehouse culture; memories of fellow firefighters; smoke eating; difficult medical calls; and the efforts of the Idaho Retired Firefighters Association to ensure retirement and disability benefits.
