Abstract
In his interview with Gaby Thomason on August 10, 2018, Ken Vargason, who served as a Boise firefighter, along with his wife Barbara offered his memories of working from the years 1965-1992. In that time, Vargason served as a firefighter, driver, lieutenant, captain, and deputy chief. Vargason spoke on the following topics: The men who inspired him to join the fire department; his nickname “Monk”; how the 1% initiative affected him; his favorite position; his philosophy as a Captain; memorable fires such as the old Saint Alphonsus hospital, the Oxford Hotel, and Tennysons; jumping into the Old Penitentiary during a riot; calls for domestic conflicts; and funny moments at the firehouse.
